Atom Heart Mother will be released on December 8 in a special edition with a 7-inch gatefold sleeve and contains a CD with the album and a Blu-ray with footage of Atom Heart Mother performed at the Aphrodite Festival in Hakone, Japan, in August from 1971 (originally part of The Early Years Box Set).
The film has been updated from a recently discovered original film reel and includes a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary.
This special edition was originally published only in Japan in 2021 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the concerts at Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park in Hakone and is now published globally and contains some unique memories: a special photo book containing many rare and never before seen photographs, reproductions of the brochure, poster, concert ticket and event flyer.
The only footage of Floyd in Hakone Aphrodite that exists is that of the 16-minute long Atom Heart Mother suite.
The location of the master film and how it was shot had long been a mystery, however, after fifty years, the original 16mm film was discovered in a fan's garage.
Meticulous digitization, restoration and remastering processes were carried out and this enhanced video will finally be released outside of Japan.
