Pink Floyd will release two physical versions of their first newly recorded music in over 25 years, 'Hey Hey Rise Up'

The single, which was initially released digitally in April in support of the people of Ukraine and went to number 1 in 27 countries, will be available as Single and CD Single.

​

David Gilmour and Nick Mason are accompanied by Guy Pratt on bass and Nitin Sawhney on keyboards and features vocals by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band Boombox.

​

At the beginning of the war, a video appeared on the internet of Andriy Khlyvnyuk singing in the streets an excerpt from the song Ой у лузі червона калина in Ukrainian, a World War I anthem, and he posted it on Instagram.

 

Gilmour, who his adopted son Charlie is married to a Ukrainian, saw the Instagram post, and was inspired to record something in support of Ukraine, contacting Mason to record it under the name Pink Floyd.

When the song was first recorded in late March, Andriy, who left his band's US tour to return home and fight for his country, was in a hospital bed in Kiev recovering from a shrapnel wound.

​

The artwork for the song 'The Sunflower Look' features a painting of the national flower of Ukraine with a twist by Cuban artist Yosan León.

 

The cover is a direct reference to the woman who was seen around the world giving sunflower seeds to Russian soldiers and telling them to carry them in their pockets, so that when they die they will grow sunflowers.

Proceeds from the physical release and ongoing digital proceeds will go towards Ukrainian humanitarian aid.

​

Both formats will also feature a new reworked version of A Great Day For Freedom taken from the band's 1994 album The Division Bell, reworking the song using the original tapes featuring Nick Mason on drums and Richard Wright on keyboards, along with backing vocals by Sam Brown, Claudia Fontaine and Durga McBroom.
